Wake Up O Sleeper

there is a problem here. not necessarily with anyone one of us specifically. the problem is more inherent in our culture. believe if you want that this country was raised as a christian nation, personally i disagree. that is not the question. the question is when did our country, our society, our moms and dads, our children, our students, our friends, all of us become more concerned with money, wellbeing, financial standing in the community, economic status at the country club and general concern for possessions than with love, living and being happy. i am not singling out any one group but addressing this nation as a whole. as a "christian" nation i believe the homeless population should be zero, the poverty line nonexistent and our main focus people, not possessions. by all of this please do not think i am being holier than thou. i am just as guilty as anyone else. maybe minus the whole money thing, since i do not have any. that is beside the point. what i am trying to say here is that we as christians, americans and people need a wake up call. we need to wake up to the fact that, though we are flawed, we need to change. we should be taking care of our poor, homeless, needy, elderly, orphans, family members, etc. not waiting on the government to take care of them. if we do that then we'll be waiting a long time before anything gets done. the more we help ourselves and not rely on outside bodies, the more action will be done, the more affect it will have. just imagine every churchgoer, christian, religious person in one year tithing their money to homeless shelters, food banks, work programs or any number of organizations that help the poor and needy. if we all did this in one year we could make a serious impact on the 35 million people currently in poverty in the united states. in all of this i am wanting to convey that we can not go through life worrying about the petty things (girls, boys, houses, cars, tvs, money in our bank account, our 401k), there is more to life than the superficial. there are real people struggling each and every day. we should not be sitting idle while thousands of our own people die each day because we turned our head. we should not be doing what the status quo tells us to do. we should follow our hearts. we will mess up, that is for sure, but we can not go through life being scared and doing what is safe. we have to take chances, otherwise why the hell are we here? we were meant to live and to find out who we are. we were meant to love.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

think about it.

at work the other day a woman came up to the window. while walking up to the window, before ever saying a word to her or her to me, i had already determined that this woman was an "unfavorable" if you will. probably quite poor, most likely a drug addict or had recently been one and in all likelihood a redneck. i didn't feel in anyway wrong for judging this woman, seeing as how one of the judgements i had made on her were true. as i opened the window i was greeted by one of the nicest women i had ever met. no sign of drug use, bad upbringing, poor economic standing; only a woman needing a phone book. needless to say i felt horrible when the interchange was over. i will never see this woman again but for two short minutes she changed the way i look at people.
